Built in 1891 our villa is one of the oldest houses in Malawi. After extensive renovations in 2023 Villa Tafika Lodge was re-named Captains Villa as this hotel presumably was the residence of the captain of the famous “Guendolen”. Mangochi was then known as Fort Johnston, an English settlement erected in order to hinder the spread of the Portuguese influence. At this strategical place ferries were crossing the river.
